| dc.description.abstract | This thesis made use of qualitative interviews to obtain a deeper insight and understanding into the experiences, perceptions, struggles and originalities in the daily profession of five blind and severely visually impaired journalists in Norway. The journalists had extensive experience in their profession, worked in various regions in Norway and across various media platforms. The participants did not view their sight as a problem or challenge in their profession, but rather viewed their various environments as being challenging. All the participants felt that the reasonable accommodation and assistants provided to them through NAV (the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) aided them to fulfil their various daily professional duties. However, they did experience mild prejudices and oppression within their longterm careers. The participants did not view themselves different to their fellow journalists, colleagues and audience, as well as felt very comfortable in asking their colleagues for assistance when required. The participants also discuss what their perceptions are in their professions as well as which values they feel are important to uphold as journalists.
